چکیده

In this note, we obtain verifiable sufficient conditions for the extreme value distribution for a certain class of skew product extensions of non-uniformly hyperbolic base maps. We show that these conditions, formulated in terms of the decay of correlations on the product system and the measure of rapidly returning points on the base, lead to a distribution for the maximum of Φ(p) = − log(d(p, p0)) that is of the first type. In particular, we establish the Type I distribution for S extensions of piecewise C uniformly expanding maps of the interval, non-uniformly expanding maps of the interval modeled by a Young Tower, and a skew product extension of a uniformly expanding map with a curve of neutral points.

Statistical Properties of Chaotic Dynamical Systems: Extreme Value Theory and Borel-cantelli Lemmas

In this thesis, we establish extreme value (EV) theory and dynamical BorelCantelli lemmas for a class of deterministic chaotic dynamical systems. We establish the distributional convergence (to the three classical extreme value distributions) of the scaled sequence of partial maxima of some time series arising from an observable on systems such as the planar dispersing billiards, Lozi-like maps...

Extreme value theory for non-uniformly expanding dynamical systems

We establish extreme value statistics for functions with multiple maxima and some degree of regularity on certain non-uniformly expanding dynamical systems. We also establish extreme value statistics for time-series of observations on discrete and continuous suspensions of certain non-uniformly expanding dynamical systems via a general lifting theorem. The main result is that a broad class of o...

Speed of convergence to an extreme value distribution for non-uniformly hyperbolic dynamical systems

Suppose (f,X , ν) is a dynamical system and φ : X → R is an observation with a unique maximum at a (generic) point in X . We consider the time series of successive maxima Mn(x) := max{φ(x), . . . ,φ ◦ fn−1(x)}. Recent works have focused on the distributional convergence of such maxima (under suitable normalization) to an extreme value distribution. In this article, for certain dynamical systems...

Hitting Time Statistics and Extreme Value Theory

We consider discrete time dynamical system and show the link between Hitting Time Statistics (the distribution of the first time points land in asymptotically small sets) and Extreme Value Theory (distribution properties of the partial maximum of stochastic processes). This relation allows to study Hitting Time Statistics with tools from Extreme Value Theory, and vice versa. We apply these resu...
